Film Club presents Oldboy (2003) by Chan-wook Park
Sorry for the delay everyone. There were some issues with room booking so we’ve had to push back the date back, so we’ll be doing a back-to-back film screening to make up for it, as well as for those who might prefer one over the other. Below is the date for Oldboy!
Screening on Thursday, November 18th, 2010
6:30 to 8:45 pm (running time is 2 hours)
@ Chester New Hall (CNH) 106
Oldboy is an acclaimed 2003 South Korean film directed by Chan-Wook Park that won the Grand Prix at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival. I believe it’s based on a Japanese manga… regardless, it stars Min-sik Choi as the main protagonist. I’m going to hold back on saying too much as I don’t want to ruin anything, but it is a unique cinematic experience forefronts the theme of revenge and pain as the second independent installment of Park’s Vengeance Trilogy. I should also mention that the film is pretty explicit in its portrayal of sex and violence (there is nudity & violence!). There are some shocking scenes which I can prepare you for to some extent, but I’ll leave it up to you guys. As well, the film has some disturbing themes. My vague cautions end there. Regardless, an excellent film and I’m hoping to see you guys there.
If you feel like sitting this one out or can’t make it, check the #3 film screening for the week after this one!
